injuries sustained in sports are not legally actionable dumbass
In most cases. There has been a rare few cases where athletes have been tried and convicted of actions during the game, but you’re right in the fact that most cases are waved off as expectations of the game, even actions beyond the game’s intent. Even if it is an empty threat, preying on one’s lack of knowledge is still a viable intimidation tactic, especially if there is a sliver of truth behind it.
The coach is also preying in Manuel’s sense of guilt. He knows what he did before was inexcusable. By digging up his past, he’s painting Manuel in a bad light using evidence that he knows Manuel cannot make any solid point of dispute. Any means he has to dispute is weak and indefensible.
Orders or not, the coach put him on the field repeatedly so obviously he was happy with results…
Manuel is a minor, so unlikely to have too much trouble over this.
If this a-hole is foolish enough to bring the cops into this, likely he will end up the one being charged.
