OK, so what was the point of this little dance if even Mommy Dearest knew that she had to guilt-trip David into going against the court order that said she has no authority over him? As it’s now obvious that she wasn’t successful, he could have said “Screw you and the horse you rode in on” any time he liked.
Sometimes it takes someone a lot of nerve just to say that, especially to their own family if they had the ‘respect your elders’ mantra hammered into them for years. The point was that he could have. He had the upper hand the entire time but she tried enforcing the illusion of him being powerless, especially to her. Even the mightiest dragon becomes docile if they think they are a sheep.
Even then, he tried to deal with her the same way he did his bullies. Walk away and avoid, but it didn’t help. This is just as much the same way how things turned out with Manuel. Also, him being slapped earlier kinda helped him establish where things were. She tried to put him in his place, but he has taken worse beatings than that. If that was the worst she could do to him, he didn’t have anymore reason to be afraid of her anymore.
Glad to see that he’s got a spine and will stand up to that psycho-bitch.
The only thing I have to nitpick about is in the last panel.
He should have said ” You *raised* me to be observant”.
Raised, not Rose.
‘Raise’ (all tenses) is done to someone or something.
“I raise cattle.”
“He raised three kids and a puppy.”
“She raises iguanas as a hobby.
“I am raising a kitten.”
Rose is done to the self: “I rose from my chair.”
“The sun rose brightly.”
Yes I am being that guy, but that one line was rather jarring.
Thanks for the catch.
Yeah, it’s about time he did that, isn’t it?
“Rose” jarred me too; thanks for being that guy, so I didn’t need to be.
‘cuz I woulda.
Though I also would have mentioned that since he’s speaking, and people often speak incorrectly at times, you could just say the error was due to David being a bit rattled.
Don´t be afraid to point out bad grammar where is due. English isn´t my first language, and I enjoy this comic as much as I learn (a great deal. Binge reading does wonders). And, yes! about time he did! 😉
“Wait…did he just…win?”
Well, he hasn’t *completely* won yet, but he’s got her on the ropes for once. That slap on the face left her open for the knockout blow that would finish her.
