One time I slept through a Nor’Easter that knocked down the huge, old, dead tree in our back yard. I wasn’t even sick. The heck of it is that I’m normally a relatively light sleeper.
Basically, your mind wakes you up if it perceives a threat. Some minds are more paranoid than others.

I have slept through trees falling on houses (on the room I was in), earthquakes, and explosions. My dad once fell asleep on an aircraft carrier flight deck. they launched several jets over his head before noticing.
